【Diabolik Lovers】 lyrics: Luv Apple Juice
Let's switch back to Diabolik Lovers for a bit, moving right along to vol.2 of the VERSUS SONG series. This time, we've got a duet from the Mukami siblings--Ruki and Azusa. And as you may remember for any other songs Ruki's been involved in, Sakurai Takahiro does not sing. So it's not so much a duet as Azusa doing the actual singing while interspersed with Ruki reading lines instead. Also, I didn't realize this until someone asked about the solo versions of "→REDRUM←", but the solo versions of "Luv Apple Juice" are DIFFERENT for each from the duet version as well as from each other's versions. I suppose that makes sense, since Ruki's probably not gonna try reading Azusa's sung parts in time (that would be odd) and if Azusa tried to read Ruki's parts, it'd take much longer and also be unable to keep tempo. If I had to say, the duet version is really a combination of lines from each of the solo versions. So because of this, I will be posting both solo versions as well, but they will be in a separate post. Now for some notes:
- I'm really enjoying these VERSUS SONGs! Diabolik Lovers usually has some absolutely awesome songs, but I haven't heard a single one in this series that I haven't loved so far! (Admittedly, I haven't actually listened to Kou & Yuuma's duet yet, so I shall reserve judgement for now.)
- So the site I found for my source of kanji lyrics had a few "typos," so to speak, but I was thankfully able to fix those up based on the separate site I found with the solo version lyrics. That site will be referenced when I post the solo versions next time.
- Ooh, there were so many good biblical and hell-related references in these lyrics! I'm just happy that I understood most of them, the biggest ones being all about the Adam & Eve story in the Bible. Obviously, the 'apple' this song keeps referring to has to do with the 'forbidden fruit' from the story, which when eaten caused Adam & Eve to acquire 'forbidden wisdom' like God's and to realize they were naked and such. And for defying God (and ignoring His 'voice of judgement'), they were banished from Paradise/Eden. There's even mention of a tempting serpent! And that pretty much explains the entire song right there!
- Another good literature reference is at the end of the very first verse (Azusa's part) where he mentions the 'deepest level' being 'frozen solid.' This is probably a reference to Dante's "Inferno", where the lowest circle of Hell (reserved for Brutus, Cassius, and Judas Iscariot, all of whom betrayed their benefactors despite never having been wronged by them in any way) is frozen in ice--an alternative to the usual fire-and-brimstone hell. When I think about it, in taking the forbidden fruit, Adam & Eve could be considered as betraying God, so that might makes sense of why the frozen hell was brought up.
- So based on what I got when I was translating the solo versions, it appears the heroine/Yui has been turned into a vampire as well in the context of this song. I mean, they were outright encouraging her to drink their blood (for a change). So I adjusted some of the syntax accordingly.
I think that's all I've got for this round. I'm having absolutely no luck finding the full kanji lyrics for Carla & Shin's VERSUS SONG, "Operation X," but I'll keep looking until I find them.
