Really, the concept of a 'Disney Princess movie' is extremely silly, a begone of the days when Disney marketed toward girls and girls only.

Interestingly I never got the idea of being all princessy as a kid. (I was queen over my playroom when I was a kid, my dolls were the princesses.) Generally I think a lot of marketers have had the wrong idea about what appeals to girls, going overboard with the wrong things.

I really think Princess and the Frog captured what made Disney films great. Not just the 2D animation, and most definitively not "being a princess movie" (I liked how the film sort of in-universe poked fun at the idea of it) but simply telling a story that's imaginative and with strong characters. Have you seen it?

As I said in my entry, I wasn't much of a princess kid, either. I was always a singer. What I meant about that line is that sometime around maybe 1999 and 2000, Disney created this Disney Princess line and really pushed it onto girls. While it was successful, it created this image that Disney produced princess movies and a lot of films around the era most of those princesses were created (Jasmine, Ariel, Belle) get forgotten (Lion King, for example).

I haven't gotten around to seeing it yet. Watching movies hasn't been high on my priority list in a long while unless I manage to catch it on TV! But it did sound exactly what Disney used to produce, but I think it suffered from the typecasting I mentioned above: it was a 'princess' movie and therefore 'girls' only. Really unfair when you think about it.

It came here to Sweden too, still going on, judging from the gaudy Disney Princess Comic books I see when doing my grocery shopping.

I think you'd really like the Princess and the Frog, it made me relive the feeling I had as a kid when seeing movies like Alladin, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, etc. Back in those days Swedish dubbing of Disney movies were also top-notch, and I kinda miss when they used to bring out the big guns when it came to dubbing songs. (I will forever prefer the Swedish version of Beauty and the Beast because of the damn awsome voices, and also because I prefer the Swedish lyrics of the main song to the point that I almost got disappointed when I heard the original and where it differed.)

I think I will, too. It's just a matter of finding a way to watch it! ^_^ It's good to hear that the dubbing for the movies were top-notch, at least in Sweden. Everyone deserves to see a good movie. How different was the main song?
