For salary, I'd look up statistics in general, but first most consider your own needs. (Likely they won't deny you work just because you demanded a little too high salary, nor not give you what you deserve if you desire less.)
As for position, just think about what you want to do, whether you think you're good at it or not. And if you still can't choose just one, putting down two or more positions (just not too many) may even be appreciated. If you come up with zero... ehhh... ask someone who actually know what they're talking about. (I just used the theories I've received about job application.)
It's your first job? The smart thing to do for a first job is always use the next line:
"I will go with the salary policy of the company."
You have no experience, so letting them put the salary is the best way to go, and it gives a great good impression.
About the post, you better wait until you get the sort of thing you want to work in for the rest of your life. You don't start working in something you don't plan to follow. Experience teaches that you will then get experience in something you don't like and will have to continue because people hardly will give you a chance to change from that.
I'm not quite sure I can fit that on that line. :p
Well, I know what I'm good at. I was very good at writing my opinion column at school. I just don't know if I'm allowed to do what I'm good at. And, if I was allowed to write a column, I'm not sure of the subject as I'm pretty sure political subjects would be out because of my lack of experience.
I agree with Dary. Either put that you'll work for the salary they have as a policy or put the average salary for a newbie like you in other local newspapers (in case you know how much is). About having confidence, I am sure you'll have more when you get the job. Good luck!!!

What about writer/columnist? What I'm good at is writing columns, but I'm just not sure if I would be allowed to do that. *moans*
