awkward emails

I think of this excerpt every time I struggle to write an email at work. I try to get around the issue of "this is going to be so insulting" by trying to find the perfect wording and the truth is just the truth, there's not much I can do with how I convey it.

What perfect timing - I was just watching the Lucy Worsley show "A Very British Murder" and she mentioned Sayers as her favorite author. I must check her out!

For work emails the older I get (and admittedly, the higher up my position), the more concise I get. Much less pleasantries, but I still try to end with one. And of course, there's the matter of how many exclamation points to write in order to come across friendly! but still professional.

I absolutely love Sayers' novels. In so so many ways - character, prose, etc etc. Just, so good.

Yeah, I try to be nice, but if you are too wordy/indirect, you risk the other person getting lost in all the words. The directest emails work best. I just try to assume no one reads anything (carefully) and try to be as clear as humanly possible.
