“When you forget someone who is special in your life, still your heart remembers it all too well…”
- silverdoll14
“Nino-chan!” Nino rolled his eyes as soon as he opened his apartment’s door and his squeallin friend exaggeratedly crashed him into a hug.

“Ugh!” he growled when the other was really literally crashing him in his embrace.

“Ai-ba! Pipe down ugh… ple-ease!” Nino managed to say under his breathe. Aiba finally let go with a giggle while Nino muttered, “Geez!” trying to stabilize his breath.

“Well, what do you expect? You were away for 3 months so I missed my best friend and I was lonely.” Aiba pouted.

“I’m not even away for year you idiot. It’s just for a short while.” Nino whispered in defense.

“Oh? Why are you whispering? Something’s wrong with your voice?” Aiba asked, still loudly as ever. Nino covered his mouth realizing Aiba was indeed loud. Aiba blinked innocently, asking his friend through his eyes. Nino looked back through the corners of his eyes, alerting Aiba of another pressenece sleeping by the living room. Aiba peeked through Nino’s shoulder, a gasp escaping his lips then looked back to Nino. His eyes, travelled back to Nino, who too k back his hand and to the figure sleeping by the living room for several times before coming into an unexpected conclusion. “You caught a bulgar?” and then a hand landed back on his head.

“Ouch!” Aiba whimpered, holding to the part of his head where he was hit.

“Stupid!” Nino only muttered.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

“Oh, so Oh-chan doesn’t remember a thing?” Aiba asked, after gulping a mouthful of ramen, looking at Oh-chan but his question was addressed to Nino who calmly drank on his cup of tea.

“Didn’t I just say that idiot?”

“Oi! I was just making sure I heard you right.” Aiba retorted back to Nino who just rolled his eyes in response, slurping now his own hot noodles. Oh-chan blinked in silence, just watching the bickering moment between the two best friends.

Aiba Masaki, as what Oh-chan learned from the tall man who barged in early in the morning. Talkative and cheerful as what he could describe the newcomer. He was a bit contrast to Nino’s compose personality yet the two seems really close to each other.

“Aha! We’ll bring Oh-chan to the place ne?” Aiba beamed. Nino looked a bit lot at first but realizing why Aiba came to his apartment early in the morning on the first place, Nino got what Aiba meant.

“Well, we could really leave him alone here. So we’ll have to bring Oh-chan with us.” Nino decided and Aiba cheered. Oh-chan just shrugged but not a single word of complain coming from him. “Maybe going outside will help him remember a bit something about him?” Nino added yet it was covered by Aiba’s loud voice who talked animatedly with Oh-chan.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

As Nino went back from his bedroom with a more suitable clothes to go out, Aiba was squealing like crazy, praising Oh-chan non-stop.

“Wah! Look Nino! Look! He’s really great neh? He drew you so well!” Aiba said showing Oh-chan’s drawing from the sofa. Nino sighed in a bit frustration. In times like this, he always asked his self how he became best friends with an idiot like Aiba.

“I could see it Aiba-chan!” Nino snarled. “Seesh, you’re really loud mouth.” Nino muttered, getting his car keys.

“Mou… and you’re really grumpy.” Aiba replied earning a glare from Nino who was by the door now. Oh-chan just giggled and just followed while Aiba was busy getting his coat. “Oi, wait!” Aiba protested, hurrying up or else Nino would definitely locked him up.

The whole trip was rather a noisy one. Well, if you have someone like Aiba to go on a trip with, no matter how solemn you wanted the tip to be, definitely it would be impossible. Nino had been silent with a few snarky comments once in a while and oh-chan was the same, only laughing with their bickering.

After a 3 hour travel, they finally arrive at their destination. Oddly, Nino became so silent. Oh-chan couldn’t hide his curiousness, especially after seeing Nino so serious. He wanted to ask vut then was he really allowed to? After all, they just met less than 48 hours.

Their destination was a small shrine on the of a hill. “WHITE SHRINE.” Oh-chan read the words in the stone by the entrance. There was a little statue of an angel on top of it.

“They say this shrine was built for angels. It’s called white shrine because angels are white. That was I heard before.” Aiba explained out of nowhere. Oh-chan could just nod, looking at the staircase that lead to the shrine. Looking at it longer, Oh-chan felt he had been here before. But when was that?

“Have you frequently go here, Aiba-chan?” Oh-chan inquired.

“hmm, Nino make sure we go here at least once a month. “Aiba replied after thinking carefully.

“Why?” Oh-chan asked further and Aiba seemed not minding at all in spilling the beans.

“I don’t really know. But one time Nino mentioned something like, ‘No matter what I do, I can’t forget yet I can’t even remember…’” Aiba continued, climbing the steps going up. Oh-chan nodded and followed, muttering something.

“He wanted to forget but his heart refuses huh?”

When Oh-chan arrived to the shrine, he saw a few people visiting the shrine. Some were praying while others are walking around. The shrine was beautiful, surrounded by trees, having fresh air. Some parts of the shrine were covered with white especially where people are praying. There were always couple, families and children around in his view but there wasn’t a black haired man who he was with, only the lanky tall man was on his sight.

“Aiba-chan, where’s Nino-kun?” Oh-chan asked.

“Oh, he disappeared again to somewhere huh?” Aiba mumbled.

“Disappeared to somewhere?” Oh-chan asked again.

“Yeah, he usually leaves me behind, running to somewhere here. When an hour or so passed, I’ll just see him.” Aiba said, smiling.

“I’ll go look for him.” And before Aiba could protest, Oh-chan disappeared into the crowd, leaving Aiba alone. “Hmm, I guess I’ll just see both of them later.” Aiba just shrugged and joined the crowd who were praying. Maybe he would go to the souvenir shop afterwards.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh-chan couldn’t really think of any possible reason why he went straight to the forest attached to the shrine. Even thought it was his first time coming here or he just forget due to his unique complications - that was forgetting everything in his past after that no-so-lethal-accident - somehow his feet just kept on walking like he knew where to go. And then when one foot tripped by the big roof of an old tree, he touched the trunk for some sort of support and right that moment, everything went on halt like time stood still.

“Oh-chan! Hurry up! You’ll miss it!” a small black haird boy said. Oh-chan blinked twice, pointing his fingers towards to his self. The black haired boy chuckled and then run, approaching him then grabbed his hand and dragging him with him. Somehow, Oh-chan shrink down, turning into a small boy himself. He just followed the small boy and in a way, his lips turned into a smile seeing how the other boy was excited for some reason.

“Look! See! I told you it would be beautiful.” The black haired boy said when they were out in the open again with a great view of the town, mountains and such. Above all was a glimmering sun, sharing it’s radiant beauty as its best even for the last time in this day.

“When an angel was reborn, he was reborn with his soulmate. Even if they get separated, eventually they’ll meet at this shrine, the white shrine, the shrine for angels and their pure love.” The black haired boy said. Oh-chan smiled and looked at the little boy, mesmerize how his skin glowed under the shine of the setting sun.

“If life separated us, we’ll meet again here, neh Oh-chan?” the little boy said, extending his right hand and pointing out his pinky finger. Oh-chan looked at the hand and then back to the face who owned them. Slowly, he extended his right hand and did the same this time intertwining his pinky finger with the other boy’s. Their smiles were big, from ear to ear. It brought a light feeling inside Oh-chan.

“I, Ohno Satoshi, promise you Kazu.” Oh-chan firmly said, this time on his older self, looking at the younger black haired boy who is slowly disappear with the light of the setting sun.

Meanwhile,
As soon as Nino arrived at the shrine above the hill, he instantly headed towards the forest, not minding he came with other people. He knew Aiba was used being left alone and he would meet with him later. Oh-chan? Definitely, Aiba would take care of him. Right now, all he could think of was coming into that place. After 3 months of not coming there at least once, Nino felt uneasy for some unknown reason. Nino lived his childhood years by the town near her. But he really didn’t have that good memories especially when they were in the clutches of their bastard father that it only left him bad memories yet still he couldn’t remove coming here. And finally arriving at usual spot there, it would remind him that it was worth it after all.

Closing his eyes, Nino felt contented in a way yet still incomplete. It was like he was trying to reach out no matter what he did yet it wasn’t enough. “The White Shrine?” He mumbled, remembering the purpose of this shrine he was standing on. “Am I trying to reach out to the angel’s above?” he said looking above the blue sky.

He reached out his right hand, tying to grasp the blue sky with his stubby fingers and then a sigh escaped his lips. “Who am I trying to fool?” he breathed out.

“When an angels was reborn, he was reborn with his soul mate. Even if they get separated, eventually they’ll meet at this shrine, the shrine for angels and their pure love.” Nino narrated in no one in particular. He hugged his arms when a gush of wind his skin. A lonely tear drop escape his right eye feeling solemn and sadness coated his heart.

And he remembered his vision upon seeing Oh-chan’s drawings earlier in the morning. Oh-chan had a talent in art and he couldn’t deny that but why Oh-chan’s drawings were striking him. His grip towards his hand tightened and he felt his knees going weak. He thought his knees would land on the grassy field of the edge of the hill where the shrine stood for years but just in time, a pair of arms caught him in time. Nino looked up and gasped a name, “Oh-chan?”

The said male smiled, helping Nino to stabilize his stance. Realizing their position, Nino gently moved backward as Oh-chan let go of him.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

In another part of the shrine,
After praying , Aiba was left alone once again. “And I though now that Oh-cha came with us, I won’t be alone while waiting for Nino.” He pouted. He went through the crowd once again hoping he would have luck to find any of the two from the crowd but to his dismay, he got no luck after all. He was busy looking away that he missed looking to where he was going.

“Ugh!”

“Ouch!” Aiba whimpered when he landed his butt flat on the ground. Aiba instantly stood up, bowing to the person he bumped to.

“Oh, I’m really sorry! I’m really sorry!” He said.

“Aiba-san?” The voice reply instead. Aiba looked up, seeing a familiar face.

“Oh, Sakurai-san.” Aiba chirped.

“Oh, it’s been a long time I haven’t saw you.” Sho greeted, a tint of blush now hinting Aiba’s face.

“A, yes… it’s been… uhm a long time…” Aiba stammered.

Sakurai Sho, someone Aiba met during their trips to the shrine, especially when Nino left him behind. Consecutively, every time they would meet, they kept on bumping ways that they eventually became friends of some sort, and strangely, every time his eyes landed to the man, his heart would pitter-patter.

“Aiba-san, are you okay?” and that snapped Aiba from his daydream.

“Ah, yes… sorry…” Aiba replied, still flushed.

“So, are you alone?” Sho asked.

“Ah, well… not exactly…” Aiba answered hesitantly.

“Aha! So he left you again?” Sho guessed and Aiba couldn’t do anything but to nod. “You’re friend sure is something? Asking you to come here then leave you behind for some time.” Sho started while walking now together with Aiba by his side.

“Well, not exactly. I figured he have something to do alone every time we come here.” Aiba said fondly. “How about you Saku-“

“Please, just call me Sho, since we have met quite often already before I think we are familiar with each other already.” Sho cut him.

“Ah, yes Saku- Oh I mean Sho-kun. Then you can just call me Masaki if you want.” Aiba smiled, the wrinkles on the side of his eyes showing beautifully. “So how about you Sho-kun, are you alone again?” Aiba asked.

“Ah, yes… been quite lonely you know with my previous visits here.” Sho said smiling bitterly.

“Eh? Why is that?” Aiba blinked childishly towards the guy.

“Well, I haven’t seen you once a week for 3 months. I kinda miss you.” Sho said, chuckling with embarrassment at the end because of his sudden straightforward declaration. Aiba’s blush tripled its layers as he slowly looked away. He felt his heart racing on his ribcage.

“Ah, yes…” Aiba could only mutter and then added, “Since Nino was away for 3 months, there’s no reason for me to come here.”

“Even though I wanted to go on my own hoping to see you.” He continued through his thoughts, but he chose not to. Sho might get terrified by him.

“Ah, so your main reason of coming here was to go with your friend only?” Sho said. Aiba blinked and then nodded, not getting Sho’s tone of slight disappointment.

“You could say it like that.” Aiba replied. “How about you Sho-kun? Why do you always come here.” Aiba asked.

“Well, you see…” Sho started and sat by the bench he found, patting the vacant space beside him. Aiba nodded and sat beside Sho.  “When I was little, I had a weak hear that’s why when I was 13 it finally gave up. But because of someone’s heart donated to me, I was given a second chance to live. I believe he was my angel that’s why I always pray for him, giving him my thanks and hoping in a way I can gran anything he wishes that he wasn’t able to do when he still alive.” Sho narrated. All Aiba could do was open his mouth into a perfect “O”.

“I think above there he sure is happy that someone like you had his heart.” Aiba smiled.

“I really hope so too… Thank you Masaki…” Sho smiled back. Another layer of red shaded Aiba’s cheeks as he heard how Sho called him Masaki.

“Hmmm, maybe I should stay here as you wait for your friend to come back.”

“Eh? Oh no no~ I don’t want to burden.” Aiba abruptly stood up waving his hands on his front. There was a burst in his heart making him act on impulse. Sakurai Sho was indeed making him nervous.

“Calm down, Masaki. I’m not going to bite you know.” Sho chuckled, making the tensed boy to sit down. Aiba bit his lower lip, his heart beating so fast that Sho was holding his wrist and the Sho’s soft laugh wasn’t helping at all, making his stomach spinning.

“Well, I was just thinking.. .since we are addressing each other by our first name, maybe we can talk to each other about ourselves. We rarely meet to be exact and the only thing we actually know about each other is our names. Sho explained. “Isn’t about time… uhm we really get to know each other?” Sho added with hesitation. Aiba blinked and nodded with a beam.

“Ah… I see.” Aiba smiled, his tension long forgotten as he animatedly talk to Sho while the latter listened with interest and talked if Aiba did ask him.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

“No! No! I can’t believe it. I don’t believe it!” A black haired boy shouted in a white corridor. A dull smell lingering on each person’s nose who were present in the long hallway. There were cries and sobs that could be heard and the little running steps as the boy run away from the small crowd and out of the dreadful place.

The boy ran wherever his feet would take him. Tears pouring down and the clear night sky turned darker as clouds gather, bringing rain. Droplets of rain started pouring yet it didn’t stop the young boy from running until a high big staircase came to his blurry view. Even if he felt his knees giving up, still he climbed the stairs with all his might. Arriving at the shrine by the end of the long staircase, he quickly dashed to the forest that resided beside the small shrine. Thunders roared and lightning lashed, there wasn’t a slight fear appearing on the young boy’s heart, only anger, sadness and maybe even hatred. Arriving at the end of the small forest, the edge of the hill, his knees landed on the wet ground as rain drenched above him.

“Why?!” He shouted with his high pitch voice. Even though he got an appearance of an 12 year old kid, his mind was much wiser compared to anyone. “Why? You promised me! YOU PROMISED US!” the boy shouted to no one in particular yet it felt like the thunders were answering him.

“Why…” he could only mumbled as he hugged his self, tears keep streaming  yet the rain hid it.

As soon as Nin opened his eyes, he abruptly sat up and looked around, touching his face to feel if there were dried tears and the looked up, seeing the clear blue sky mixed with the orange radiance the setting sun gave out. And the he realize another presence was beside him

“Oh-chan?” He murmured and the said lad smiled to him. He bit his lower lip knowing he felt asleep so suddenly in Oh-chan’s grasps. With a blush on his face, he slightly remember how they ended up in that position.

“How did you find me here?” Nino asked hesitantly.

“I don’t know. I just followed where my feet will take me.” Oh-chan replied, scratching the back of his head. Nino smirked before commenting, “I didn’t know you were that poetic, Oh-chan.” And that earned a small laughter from the latter.

“This is spot has a beautiful view here.” Oh-chan complimented as he face the scenery. Nino did the same.

“I lived by the town nearby and we usually come here when I was a kid. Though I really don’t remember how I ended up discovering this spot.” Nino admitted and Oh-chan could just give a nod.

“I can’t really explain it but I have an urge to come here at least once a month when I started living in Tokyo but lately, it was becoming habitual coming here once a week except for the last 3 months.” Nino continued not minding how he became so open to Oh-chan, despite the fact that he was still a complete stranger. Nino sat by the ground, still facing the scenery. When he realized that Oh-chan was still standing, he looked at the latter and patted the space beside him. Oh-chan smiled, his chubby cheeks were emphasize and then sat beside Nino. From knee to shoulders, they were pressed together even if there was a wide space yet it just felt right. Their closeness just really felt right.

Nino started talking from small things to big things and Oh-chan listened to every word. Even if Nino did all the talking he didn’t mind because Oh-chan’s presence was enough, satisfying his self unlike the trips he took before going there. Eventually, their hands clasped together, intertwining it yet no one dared to pull their hand away. Watching the scenery, Nino’s smile never faded even when he accidentally fell asleep leaning his head towards Oh-chan’s shoulder plates. It felt that everything was just in place and he was more contented.

Remembering also their exact position, especially their hands, Nino let out a yelp alerting the other.

“What’s wrong Nino-kun?” Oh-chan asked. Nino shook  his head and then looked away, to the scenery. The sun was almost setting. He looked through his watch, a perfect excuse to pull back his hand back to himself.

“Let’s go back. Aiba must be worries now that we haven’t come back yet and it’s turning dark already.” He said the stood up, dusting off his pants. Oh-chan nodded and stood up doing the same. Nino started walking away towards the way back to the shrine but stopped when he didn’t heard footsteps following him. He looked back seeing Oh-chan looking at him with smile.

“What’s wrong, Oh-chan?” he asked carefully. Oh-chan looked towards the setting sun, the wind blew softly when Oh-chan spoke up.

As soon as words slipped out between Oh-chan’s beautiful thin lips, Nino felt a pang in his heart he couldn’t describe.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

As soon as they arrived  back to the shrine, they received  a mouthful of complains from Aiba for worrying him until he was stopped by another man he was with the whole time. Aiba then remembered the he was with Sho that he introduced him to the two.  Since it was getting dark, they decided to grab some food before they hit the road back to Tokyo.

Unlike his usual bratty image who usually ended up teasing Aiba now that there was this Sho Aiba seemed to be interested with, Nino was rather silent that evening. He just talked when being asked.

“Nino-chan, is something wrong?” Aiba asked one time and everyone looked at him with curiousness and worry.

“Ah, sorry… maybe I’m quite tired.” Nino excused not really wanting to be a party-pooper but he wasn’t really in the mood.

“I’ll drive on our way home okay.” Aiba said, and Nino was more thankful enough that Aiba didn’t inquire more.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Under the radiance of the moonlight lightening his bedroom, Nino leaned his back on the backrest of his chair. He hanged his head back, closing his eyes and the last scene in the hill with Oh-chan replayed playfully in his head.

“What’s wrong Oh-chan?” he asked carefully. Oh-chan looked through the setting sun as the wind blew gently.

“Ohno… Satoshi… If I remember correctly… Ohno Satoshi is my name.” Oh-chan spoke with calmness. Nino felt a pan in his heart he couldn’t describe. It was somewhat familiar yet foreign at the same time.

“I think I came back to fulfill a promise, Kazu…” Ohno looked back to Nino with a shy smile. Nino didn’t move yet he was taken aback with Ohno’s words, especially when he called him ‘Kazu’ like that.

“Maybe you are… Oh-chan…” Nino looked away. “Let’s go…” he just said and headed back to the shrine, this time with Ohno following him.

“Ohno Satoshi…” Nino replayed the name stuck in his head. He was glad that Oh-chan or rather Ohno was starting to remember about his past, about his identity. Maybe like he planned, bringing Ohno outside might triggered his memories back. But then there was a part of Nino that wished he didn’t heart that name coming from Oh-chan. Somehow, he felt like he wanted to forget that name yet his heart couldn’t let go. He asked himself, who was this Ohno Satoshi? Not just a stranger that save his life but who was he in his life… in his heart?
