I'm guessing that the mother and child ones are living mothers and dead children. That really breaks my heart. I'm surprised they were able to hold them and stay still. Its interesting how the way we deal with grief changes over time.

It also of course reminds me of The Others. You were the one that recommended I see it, I think. I did love it, great movie.

When I worked in photo labs, we processed lots of wake and funeral pictures. The first few times I saw these pictures, I thought it was strange. But then I realized that it's a way to commemorate another of life's passages.

I'm glad you liked The Others. It's one of my favorites.

You know, this apparently used to be the big thing to do when someone kicked off. I don't know when it faded out, but I'm kind of glad it did.
