This reminds me of the first episode I ever saw of Hercules, where the actor playing Hercules was actually Hercules playing the actor playing Hercules, and they were trying to come up with new plots. Sidekick guy (Aeolas?) was killed 3 times in the first five minutes, including having a ton-weight dropped on him. I kind of sat and stared and then died laughing.
Hee! Of course, they did very much the same thing *g*. Iolaus was notorious for being killed off at least once a season. Hercules was great fun - I love shows that don't take themselves seriously (even though the history and mythology was insanely bad). :)
Xena is wonderful cracky fun, but you would absolutely weep at the handling of history and mythology. They manage to feature Julius Caesar, Boudica, The Knights of the Round Table, Jesus, Socrates and Beowulf all within the space of a few years of each other.

Wow, I never saw enough of Xena to know there were such parallels! (Actually, I never saw enough of Xena full stop *hur hur*)
Just goes to show that there's nothing new under the sun.
