Does anyone else who works in the UK in a non-essential services job not get Good Friday and/or Easter Monday off? Damnit, I want my Bank Holiday. :(

q&a, work

In the Netherlands we don't get Good Friday off either but most people take the day off. On Monday we do get off, since Easter Monday is an official Sunday here.

When I worked in the pub trade, you would never ever get a bank holiday off because that was when the pub was most likely to be busy. In fact, Good Friday would usually mean a double shift (and no overtime pay either, just basic rate)

I'm working this Friday because I (rather stupidly) volunteered to do overtime (I work in a callcentre) - wish I hadn't now . . .

I don't normally work Fridays, but if I did I would get this one off.. if that makes sense?!

I do, but Phil doesn't. FYI he works for the university :)

Boo! None of my favourite people get Easter off :(

Nope, Good Friday is a normal day for us in PT. We're also open Sunday trading on Monday, so I've got to work 10-4. Only get Easter Sun. We also only close for Christmas Day so I have to work Christmas Eve and New Years a lot too.

In fact, I end up working most BH. May have to have words with the boss...
