The short version?
Harvey (Kyla's husband), died, Dan was bordering on chivalrous *g* (hence the supportive hugs), police chappy saw Kyla give her son a slap, and so to make her day even better, took the kid away from her to boot.
But the important part is that Peter W was lovely in it ; )
