What we saw on Saturday was nothing short of spectacular. This year's Preakness lived up to everything everyone made of it in the days leading up to the race. Mine That Bird really is a little horse in a plain brown wrapper. But to watch him run against the others.........holy shit, what a stride!!!

Note that the plain brown wrapper comment was made by turf writer Steve Haskin prior to the Derby. I neglected to credit him for it.

It's disappointing that neither has a shot at the Triple Crown, with both of them being horses it would be incredible to attach to the achievement, but it's definitely been a pleasure to see the naysayers proven wrong on both counts.

Personally, I'd have loved to see Mine That Bird win the Triple Crown, but I have a pronounced bias for game little geldings in that plain brown wrapper you mentioned. ;)

Calvin Borel's wikipedia page suggests that he's still eligible to win the Triple Crown this year. This amuses me with its wrongness.

That would be a first - a jockey winning the Triple Crown, but not the horse.
