Five Mandatory Goth Cover Songs

As far as I can tell, if you sing goth stuff and you don't cover at least one of the following, Mick Mercer comes around in the middle of the night and holds your head under the water until you do.

  • Don't Fear the Reaper
  • Tainted Love
  • Paint it Black
  • Running up That Hill
  • Halleluja

Blue Oyster Cult! I'm going to do that song at Karaoke soon.

I've been...listening to power ballads a lot recently *shame*. But I've been so amused at gradually picking out where a lot of screaming hardcore comes from. I'd happily sing 'Don't Fear the Reaper' at Kareoke.

Plus, it has awesome lyrics.

At Golgotha recently, I dissolved into tears of laughter because during Paint It Black you could feel the WHOLE FLOOR SHAKING in time. It was as though William Shatner was in control of a very small earthquake:

I. See. A. Red. Door. And. I. Want. To. Paint. It. Black.

There's a version of "Don't fear the Reaper" done by "Prozac for Lovers" that I was listening to when reading your post. It makes for an amusing offset. You should check it out. :)

If we're gonna talk about ballads...

When I was in the States, Concrete Blonde's 'Bloodletting' was terribly important.

It's all about the Zombie Shuffle that goes with it.
