I loved it. I can understand why this is going to be the last plot-heavy chapter. Funny thing is, I'm trying to proceed in the other direction. I'm giving up on the pictures and focusing on the story.
Now, more on the update. Bruce better mind his p's and q's pdq if he doesn't want to get worse than he's already got at this point. He was pretty lucky to be honest.
I was wondering if Rosalie might have stayed away from the get together to avoid seeing Howie, but it sounds like she's avoiding everyone.
Danny and Sakura's seen was touching. It is funny in a tragic way what they were teaching kids back then. I wondered if you were going to include the missile crisis in this update, but I guess it's still a couple years early?
Also, I love that Shirley is going to get her 2.5 kids. ;) And doesn't it always seem that as soon as you give up trying, it happens?
Steven, don't burn yourself out. It'll be okay, I promise!
Steven's going to be just a little too old to be really hit by Vietnam, isn't he? It's the boys his sisters' ages who will be facing that conflict. Rosalie is not going to react well when her sons are drafted, not after what happened to Gilbert
( ... )
Oh God, Rosalie is totally going to end up with a draft dodging kid, isn't she? She's got so many, one of them's going to run!
Well, nothing wrong with girls!
Yeah, she did choose to have eight kids, which means taking care of eight kids, but with Bruce not helping at ALL...
Yeah, staging is the sucky thing. Scaling it back isn't bad. And you're right about the cousins and spares not really needing to feature. That's one thing that I think killed some legacies - they liked their spares and cousins better, or they wanted to keep track of everyone, and it really just stopped being important at some point...as well as the hoods becoming too big to be easily manageable. We all have gone from one family to dozens, and that can be a lot of houses to play.
Still, I'll be happy to see anything of the Bradfords, whether it's staged or gameplay or not!
The odds are defiantly not in her favor in regards to having a draft dodging kid, with (pauses to check generation 8 roster) 5 of her 8 being boys.
Nope, girls are good. If I decide to go plotty again, Shirley raising girls will make for good storylines.
Eight kids is a lot for anyone, and with no help from Bruce, Rosalie deserves sympathy.
Constant staging sucks, so I figure if I do mostly gameplay and then stage a few pictures per chapter, it won’t feel like such a task. There are spares that I love and will probably still be background fodder, but I should really keep the majority of the focus on my heirs and their descendants, I should be able to finish up the last 2 generations. I figure with the 60s coming up, I can plop some random spares off on “commune” style lot and not pay them too much mind, cheating them up in age every now and then.
I’m glad to hear that people (or you at least) want to see more Bradfords. With such a long unplanned hiatus, I was worried that people had forgotten about them.
(This is partially relating to what you and Rose are talking about too, so I made it a more general comment)
One thing that gets me too, is that Calla doesn't seem to be helping Rosalie out. Is it because Rosalie hasn't asked or is there another issue that I've forgotten? I imagine that Cindy helps Alice out quite a bit, but Calla is getting on in years, and there is only so much that two women can do with 8 children, even when they're in school.
(Feel free to jump in; I’m excited people are talking about the chapter).
No, Calla is not helping much. One piece of head-cannon that probably wasn’t as clear in the chapters as it possibly could be is that Rosalie didn’t agree with Calla’s parenting style, and therefore didn’t trust her mother do bring the children up “properly.” So at some point, Calla got told to “butt out,” and then decided to let Rosalie do things her way.
I'm pleased Alice is there to support Rosalie. You've created such three dimensional characters in this legacy, everyone has their flaws yet can easily be related to as well!
My heart broke for Sakura, her response perfectly summed up how long lasting the effects of war can be.
It was nice to finally be able to put out an update. :)
Alice may have her differences with Rosalie, but she will always be there to support her since Rosalie was one of her first friends upon coming to Simsfield. Aw, gee, I’m blushing. I try to make my characters are real as possible, and real people have flaws.
Sakura certainly has some unseen scars from surviving the war.
Yay! An update! (Totally late in noticing) I kept checking your feed once a month hoping you'd pick it up again. Just love your story and your update.
Can't wait to see who Steven is gonna end up with, he's probably gonna be as oblivious with woman as his dad was.
Yay for Shirley and Walter, I just love Shirley, would indeed be funny if she had a bunch of girls to bring up.
Totally agree with what was said above, your characters are so real. I actually made my partner read your story to understand why I loved it so much. :)
And I also totally agree with Rosefyre, it's great to read some new Bradford content again. I can understand how all the staging gets to be a drag. Hope you get to enjoy playing again. :)
Totally late in replying to your sorta late comment. :)
Aw, I’m flattered. I’m glad that you thought it was worth continuing to check to see if I’d updated.
I have plans for Steven. I can’t say too much without spoiling a ton, but I think I can say that he’s not going to understand women any better than his dad.
I had to have Shirley and Walter have another kid. It will be interesting to see how Shirley copes with raising a daughter.
Aw, I try to make my characters well-rounded. I’m glad that you think I’m able to do so.
I was genuinely worried about the response I’d get (if any) after being “away” for so long. I’m glad that people missed it. I’ll do my best to not go so long between chapters again. Staging is a drag, and I’ll only do it if I find it necessary. I have been able to play some, and it’s enjoyable again.

*hugs Rosalie because she needs one*
