and everyone wanted to get in a newspaper story about it

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day here in the US, and as is probably neither unusual nor unexpected, I have a few traditions that I tend to adhere to on this particular day.

This year it's a mixture of the old and the new.

One thing I do and which I've done for a while now is to read Carl Sandburg's " Fire Dreams." I don't know ( Read more... )

Same to you!

So weird to be overseas on Thanksgiving, though.

I also include pecan pie in my Thanksgiving tradition! Homemade pecan pie is one of my dad's favorites, though he and I are the only ones at the table eating it. (Although you will probably think me a heretic, as I eschew karo entirely in favor of molasses.) :)

Depends. What kind of molasses?

Grandma's Original (mild), unsulphured. Traditionally, anyway.

Hmm. Haven't tried that.

My primary association with molasses is sorghum.

Also, icon love!

Alice's Restaurant is the best. I got to hear it live the week before Thanksgiving, my sophomore year of college. (Hey, you tell me I can get tickets to see Arlo Guthrie for ten bucks because the show's at one of the nearby colleges? I AM SO THERE.)

Granted, I think the real winner of that night was the story leading up to "Coming Into Los Angeles," but you can't go wrong with a typical case of American blind justice.

What an amazing experience! I admit I am somewhat deficient in knowledge of Arlo Guthrie's music, but thanks to agonistes I was introduced to this one (with potential for more).
