I agree. Both that they have been at risk, and that they have been treated differently.
What may happen in the future does not change the past. For example, if the casting for Bobby and Rufus had been swapped, or Castiel and Anna -- would the core of the story have been that much different? It's something to think about, and worth thinking about.
I have almost never felt that SPN has been malicious
... and right there you have in one sentence essentially encapsulated a large part of why I made this post in the first place and why I am feeling defensive. Because I agree with that, too, and I don't see many people either noticing or acknowledging it.
and that's frustrating because I like the show and really love a lot of it
