YES. And aside from the surface humor? I like that line simply because it continues the show's habit of not simply giving the nod to sociocultural issues through unacknowledged casting, but by overtly making statements.
See also the casting of Japanese relative-unknown Masi Oka, and the way the show has been handling the language barrier there. AND Hiro's remark to Hope, too -- "We're not Chinese!"
Yes to all of those, and I loved the "We're not Chinese!" moment. Hey, it'd be cool if the Haitian finally snapped and was like, "I AM NOT HAITIAN. I AM DOMINICAN. FUCK YOU ALL."
One reason I loved Hiro/Charlie was the language lessons, and the even keel it put the on -- they were both stumbling and ineloquent, and they were both fluent and eloquent.
a.) THAT WOULD MAKE ME SO HAPPY. The 'hey, it's a nameless Haitian!' thing is the one interracial casting aspect that still continues to bug me. (Not that you would ever have guessed or anything.)
Completely off-topic (as I still haven't seen any Heroes!), are you around, and if so, are you interested in ... whichever thread we were going to thread?
Not much to say here, but I like reading your analysis and I pretty much agree. Hiro, don't be a dumbass, the "I must leave you for your own safety" has been done to death on this show and elsewhere.
Huh, I didn't realize this wasw called "Unexpected"--so was the latest Chapter of Bleach, and they both had a "HELL YES IT'S UNEXPECTED" moment. Good times.
I'm actually enjoying the disunity, which may be a difference in taste or just a lack of it on my part. But I'll be posting on the episode myself later today.
(who I bet we find out was murdered on Linderman's orders instead of having killed himself)
My other theory is that he had a power that (like Claire's and Peter's) involved suicide as a part of the testing process, and something went wrong. But either way, I'll be pleased if it turns out not to have been a suicide, because that explains away the fact that delusions of grandeur? Not a symptom of Major Depressive Disorder. *g*
At least this saves us a situation in which Nathan would have been likely to do something both drastic and unpleasant.

"I believe in destiny. Karma. . . . And I'm not just saying that because you're Indian."
. . . . more insightful responses possibly later. But. *still giggling over that*

Pity -- I'd like to see that, actually.
