Sleeping, Studying, and Sweeping

Today is another one of those strange days that feels as if the time isn't going right. I woke up far, far too late today (around 10 minutes before noon), when I'm used to getting up at a reasonable time. I think it was because I caved in yesterday and got Panda Express (all steamed veggie side, mandarin chicken, and beef&broccoli). I just couldn't ( Read more... )

I do the money-pondering thing too. This month was extremely tight (due to Doug taking 9 days off in June for the wedding and honeymoon) so we only got to put 5% of his check into savings instead of our standard 10%. Also, since we can survive on his check alone (more or less), we have decided to put my entire check (when i start getting one, which still seems far, far away) into savings for a car or for a big move or whatever.
My monthly income will be about 40% of what he makes per month. Depressing, yes?
Just an idea you can mull around when you get a job, even if its something part-time like mine.

The whole point of that little ramble was to say, that my car is still owned by my dad and he wants it back. So we're going to try to find something used (a Matrix or Vibe, a Versa or last but not least a Focus) with good mileage for around $9000. Not unheard of in this part of the country--that is our first big thing my paycheck will start going to.
Your car sounds like its doing just fine, which is great :D Just don't rule out used cars, but if you want a NEW new car in the next couple of years, just decide what what you can't live without, what you CAN live without, and start getting an idea of $$$ early. For a NEW new car, $20 grand seems pretty normal.

Oh yeah. My step-dad's business is car warranty administration, so I'm really familiar with cars when it comes to buying them and such (even though I know very little about cars themselves). And, of course, I'm very practical when it comes to these things. =D I had to watch my single-low-income mother purchase two cars growing up, which gave me a good perspective on prices that are reasonable and prices that aren't reasonable, or so I feel ( ... )

Public transit, hahahaha.... nope, none whatsoever. The good thing is that its such a small town, I can walk and/or ride my bike anywhere. The farthest store from my place is Wal-Mart, where I don't shop anyway, so I go weeks at a time where I don't even use my car at all.
Doug has a truck which is a manual transmission, which i hate (i can do it, i just hate driving it) so after we replace my car, I'm thinking of evaluating whether we should keep his truck or trade it in for something more fuel efficient. He does commute 40 miles RT each day.
