Aww, poor Sophie.

Y'know, even these posts make me want a pet. Are hedgies difficult to look after, would you say? What special things do they need, and how much attention?

They aren't much more difficult than hamsters. They require a bit more care, because most of them poop on their wheel instead of the same corner every night, so there's more cleaning. They also need more space than hamsters, although Sophie would be content with half as much as she has, I think.

Personalities vary a lot. Sophie prefers to be left alone. Others like to be handled or given the chance to explore outside their cage.

Hedgehogs aren't legal as pets everywhere. That's probably the first thing to look into.

Poor Sophie! Nothing worse than a toothache. I hope she's better and munching on mealworms soon. (Ew, mealworms. Liver. Aren't pets fun!)

Oh they are. Mom has a snake. We have dead rats in the freezer. Yuck (although watching the snake eat is cool). Mealworms and liver don't seem so bad in comparison.
