Got a message from Marty's new owner today:
Hey, Kelsey. I just wanted to let you know that Marty is adapting well to his new home. We felt really badly taking him from his mommy like that, but we didn't want to see him end up in a shelter. Haha, you jest about coals on a fire, but some places actually do turn the heat down! When I worked at a university in Oregon, they didn't give any days off around Christmas/New Year's, but they encouraged everybody to take vacation by turning down the heat to freeze us out. Unfortunately, I hadn't built up any vacation. I thought it was a bit of madness, actually.
I can't believe, though, that your office needs to be open on Christmas Eve!

That seems really silly that they wouldn't give you any time off for the holidays! Not even federally mandated ones? So weird.
We got started really, really late on tax planning, so we're working right up until the 31 on them. I don't do anything with tax planning, so I forsee no problem in getting myself off early. And if not, well, that's money in the bank I guess.

Yeah, we did get the federal holidays off. But a lot of universities give you extra days, since the kids weren't on campus anyway, and the professors don't have to work when the kids aren't there. Not EOU, though. They just tried to force us to use the vacation we accumulated or freeze us to death!
