And so I have spent three days neck-deep in Bleach on onemanga.com
I won't lie: I do prefer it much better when people start with the manga ;) The anime is its own kind of awesome, but I find that it tends to 'flatten' things a bit: the characters get a bit more stereotypical, the interactions don't always have the same multiple subtilities, and so on. So yeah, good on you for starting with the manga ;)
I CAN'T PICK A FAVORITE CHARACTER:D I see you've already discovered Bleach's greatest asset: its multitude of equally interesting characters. The human kids, the shinigami, the Espada, the Vizards: so many fascinating characters! So much so, in fact, that this has become Bleach's most commonly agreed-on blessing-and-curse: Kubo spends so much time giving so many characters their turn in the spotlight that it often brings the plot to a crawl, and it can literally be months or years between two significant appearances of any given character - including the main ones! But when one of your favourites does get to shine... ( ... )

*grin* Glad I started with the manga, then, if the characters are somewhat deeper. I really only did it because it's more convenient to sit down and read something than sit down and watch something for me, though I do tend to prefer manga versions of manga/anime series in general.
Just wait until you discover his backstory: if you think you have a crush on him now, what will it be then :P ?
*is now very excited about getting to that part* I may not have a favorite character... but Byakuya comes pretty damn close.

*shudder* Ah, shipping wars- the one thing in fandom that I will absolutely never be able to understand. I'm a serious multi-shipper and a fan of OT3s as a solution to ship wars.
