That's my favourite Sloan song, by a long shot. Saw them perform it a year ago.

I always read this song as not asking for sympathy, per se. It's a sort of confession to the girl, and he doesn't sound particularly sorry about it. "We've all been in one situation or another, it's my turn": he's justifying it with this line.

It really sucks when telling someone that you love them is a confession.
