I woke up to Sloan's "The Other Man" on my clock radio. It's reminding me of the best line so far from Arrested Development, the show about the fictional Bluth family on FOX. That's my favourite Sloan song, by a long shot. Saw them perform it a year ago.

I always read this song as not asking for sympathy, per se. It's a sort of confession to the girl, and he doesn't sound particularly sorry about it. "We've all been in one situation or another, it's my turn": he's justifying it with this line.

The confessional part is most obvious at: "He's going to find out that the rumours are true. / The love that I've still unbeknownst to you. / He'll found out so I'll tell you because, /
You gotta find out before he does."

It really sucks when telling someone that you love them is a confession.

Because Boris reminded me that I could buy for cheap songs I hear on the radio, I just bought this song on iTMS, and deleted the illicit version I downloaded.
