I just got back from seeing Brokeback Mountain. And damn.

I'm not really sure what to say. It hurts, it just feels so unfair, but damn, is it a good movie. It almost had me in tears, and that's saying a lot.

...now I really want to read the story it's based on.

Heh.

Annie Proulx's word choice and the way she describes EVERYTHING is so effective and GUH and OH MY GOD. And it and the movie are so similar which is GREAT.

Heh, so I guess I should read it? :'p

It's the short story right? Cause I've seen some sort of movie version of the story?

The movie version of the story contains the original story AND the entire screenplay. So you could get that or the story by itself.

I have both.

it's a great book. But be warned: active imaginations are worse than movies

I read the book a long time ago, 'way' before there was even talk of a movie and was anxious to see what it would look like. I loved the story. It's definitely (one of) the best translations from book to film. The story is painfully beautiful and Ang Lee (and the rest) did a great job. READ IT and you WILL cry.
