I'm going to be fairly incoherent here--rage and grief do that to me.

Why was I put on this earth?

That's never been a question for me.  Never.  Probably the easiest question to answer, more so even than Pepsi or Coke.

I think it's a complicated question you're asking because someone's belief or lack of belief doesn't necessarily have anything to do with how they see environmental issues. Western history (predominantly Christian) is full of examples of people who believed that the stewardship you're referring to gave them the right to exploit the resources of the earth for their own gain. Western culture as a whole, from theists and non theists alike are not interested in altering our lifestyles to the point of inconvenience. People will do stuff like recycle because it's a fairly easy thing to get people to start practicing, but then they jump into their big ass SUV and drive around because nobody has bothered to come up with a better method of transportation than the same sort of gasoline engine we've all been driving for a hundred years.
