Pretty much failed the past two days with the eating and the gym. There is a big hotshot SCA event tomorrow, so I'm going to put the blame some on that. (And it's been so damn cold!!) Spouseman was helping the feast steward, away all day peeling pounds of parsnips and whipping up honey butter. At least I have finished those big damn books so I ( Read more... )

I love parsnips. They kept the Pilgrims alive! There is some quote from a guy, "we eat parsnips for breakfast, parsnips for lunch, parsnips for snack ...," but they did fine. Though I was the only guy at one Thanksgiving who would eat 'em. I think they have a nice nutty taste and are less boring than acorn squash which I loathe.

Honey butter on parsnips, like that. Yes, maybe the doldrums are lifting.

We should talk medieval food. Or SCA food, which might not be the same thing. I like old food. I used to serve Indian pudding at the restaurant where I worked, cornmeal, molasses and some other stuff. Believe it or not, the name is roughly accurate and the recipe hasn't changed in 300+ years. People loved it.

Vatavian Taste of Calontir Table at Lilies. Eh?

You can get a number of people together to research recipes, test them, and then make them for the Table. You want to get somewhere like 6-8 people on your team, so it would be perfect for people in the barony who want to cook.

And you know I've got your back on this one.
