Husband Man did some more chemical pouring and snaking, but it turned out he did have to call Roto-Rooter (which happened while I was out of town), and it was just as well--turned out to be tree roots.

There is a chemical I saw at Lowe's which is supposed to kill the roots. However, after getting my sewer pipe snaked last year I haven't had any problems. It may be awhile before you have another problem.
