Lore secured the collar to the Romulan uniform he had acquired, kicking over the last owner of the garment. This was far more comfortable than that Starfleet uniform he'd been stuck in. Of course, he'd been a little surprised when he opened his eyes and discovered himself aboard a Romulan Warbird... but it had worked out in the end ( Read more... )

Shinzon, Commander, at that point, and not yet Praetor, strode out onto his bridge, fresh from a briefing with his Romulan superiors about some conflict or another he was expected to engage in shortly. Of course they were trying to kill him as much if not more than they were trying to kill the Empire's enemies, but that didn't make it any less frustrating, and not when he was so close to a power grab.

He took a deep breath, contemplating a cup of tea and a relaxing meditation, but there were other matters to attend to first.

He moved to peer over the shoulder of one of his crewmen, thoughtfully. "Report."

"Sensors are detecting a drifting vessel half a parsec away. It's a Romulan Warbird, Commander. Possibly derelict."

Shinzon leaned across the console nearby, resisting the urge to micromanage the entire bridge, and instructed, "Hail her."

"Hailing frequencies open."

The young man paused a moment, and then said, "This is Commander Shinzon of the IRW Zdonek. Do you need assistance?"

Lore pursed up his lips and blew out a whistling, almost amusing breath between them as he tried to come up with a quick response to that hail, still dangling in the chair.

He didn't know if Romulan intelligence (the Tal Shiar was especially capable) would know about his pesky little ability to call for that lovely Crystal Entity. If so, Lore wasn't precisely a name that he should be using.

Would it be possible for them to fall for another Soong-type android existing? ...Sure. Why not?

Hopping up, he lazily stepped over the bodies on the way to the comm. He settled in the seat primly, gentlemanly, and spoke into a mild, kind tone. "There has been an incident. The ship was invaded in an effort to acquire me and I hid. I am an android that was recently rescued by this vessel. Any assistance you provide would be welcomed."

He would have to see how it worked out.

Shinzon was silent for a moment, considering that answer, and trying not to grin at the thought of a Romulan ship being invaded. Served them right, the pointy-eared, devious little monsters.

"There are no signs of life," his helmsman reported after a moment, "Except the android."

"How tragic," Shinzon said without any trace of sorrow whatsoever, turning his attention to the screen, and then doing a swift doubletake. That android looked exactly like the one he'd recently 'liberated' from Goloroth. "...Transmit your coordinates and we will beam you aboard. Vkruk, you have the bridge."

Shinzon took his leave of the bridge, taking a quick route to the transporter room, his curiosity about Lore more than piqued. There were questions to be asked of this android that didn't need to be asked in full hearing of the whole crew.

Lore transmitted the coordinates, realizing slowly maintaining that flat expression was going to be difficult. It was so bland. So uninteresting. So DataHe stood to await transport, passing a fleeting glance down at one of the bodies next to him ( ... )
