Fantastic. Beautifully detailed, and so sad - and it somehow feels inevitable, like they have to have this closure between them before everything else can get set right. Just lovely.

I'm really glad you said that, because it was exactly what I was trying to get across. The general feeling that this had to happen and that resisting would just be defiantly turning away from their own realizations.
Oh wow....oh wow...there's really not enough 2010 fic around! This is wonderful, it's so angsty and hot, and yet has a quiet, resigned calmness about it. I love it. 2010 is very high up on my J/S favorites list and RDA and AT play that tension and subtext so very well, and the reflection of that in your fic is brilliant.
I love that you made her think that it was "meant to be" without making it sound sappy and cheesy. I love that bit about her not being "Carter" anymore, that really struck a chord. And her thoughts at the end are heartbreaking.

Gosh, thank you very much!! I agree, 2010 is definitely up there in my top 10 episodes. They have so much subtle pain and regret in their interactions. But I can't believe that they don't care for each other...if that were true it wouldn't be so painful!
Oh yeah, there's definitely still something there between them. It's all about the regrets and missed opportunities, and that sizzle of tension between Jack and Joe is also very telling...Jack's not too good at hiding his jealousy is he? Lol.

Oooh, definitely. I love their face off over whether or not Sam should be involved in the mission. Joe obviously manipulating Jack based on his knowlegde of the elephant in the room named feelings.
And Jack attempting to hide his jealousy is funny. The antagonism and sarcasm sky rockets!
