Review of "I Want to Believe"

Jul 28, 2008 21:02

Although I saw the movie opening night, I took a few extra days to mull things over before writing my review. The truth is, I wanted to like this movie, but I just couldn't. I was so bitterly disappointed in it that I actually went to a bar and hung out w/ friends afterward, just so the night wouldn't be a total waste.

First, the Positives (and ( Read more... )

I wasn't too thrilled either.

However, the quick x-files theme when the camera panned to the portrait of our current president and then over to J. Edgar Hoover was priceless.

I thought it was a cute joke, but too little, too long in the making.

I'm just so disappointed.

I was disappointed as well, but I was able to go into it expecting something along the lines of just an extended episode and not a movie, so to speak.

I was really disappointed at the lack of supernatural stuff.

I may or may not have said, "Oh my god, don't trust him, he's a Cylon!" whenever Callum Keith Ramie appeared. Or maybe just the first time. And third time...

Though I do admit, the MSR part of me squeed many times.

If it had been a good MOTW ep, I would've been happy. But it kind of felt like just an excuse by CC&co to take advantage of fan interest w/ very little payoff in return.

I would've been happier with the MSR if it had been handled better.

I haven't seen the movie and now I'm going to wait for the DVD, I'm afraid your review dovetails with the mumblings I've heard from other fans. I'm particularly irritated by not-enough-skinner news. I love him and his tighty-whiteys I'll just re-watch fight the future or S1, I loved S1. ICE is still one of the best hours of TV (IMHO)

I love Skinner, too. I know DD was THE male sex symbol of XF, but I was always partial to MP.

I agree 100% about "Ice"!

I must say that besides the fact that it had Scully, and Mulder, and Skinner and I basically jumped on my seat only hearing the music from the opening credits, I was quite a bit disappointed by the case they chose to make the movie, I liked the alien ones better, and I didn't like the fact that Mulder and Scully were already together and I hate that watching the pilot of Californication has kinda ruined the vision I had of David Duchovny forever Don't get me wrong, I am and will always be a hardcore fan of X-Files (I was even a member of their fanclub and got their magazine once a month), but I was expecting something else, I was expecting alien, conspirations, paranormal phenomena (because, let's face it, that priest "seeing things" wasn't all that paranormal in my opinion). I don't know, it was great to see them again, but I hated the case, and I hated that it was nothing but one of those episodes I didn't like that much. I was expecting more for a movie. The first movie was great, I don't know what happened with this one. I hope ( ... )

I agree with pretty much everything you said about the movie, except it didn't bother me seeing the MSR. I hate to sound so bitter and dejected. It's just that I AM so bitter and dejected. lol

I haven't seen "Californication" yet, but I'm planning on renting the DVDs. After what you said, now I'm nervous... and the mullet already had me scared enough!

(Sorry it took so long to reply to this, but I've been away for a bit.)

I think part of the reason I so disliked the movie was b/c of how it portrayed Scully. She came off frightened and bitter to me, and that's just not the Scully I fell in love with. There's something else thematic that's bothering me, too, only I can't quite put my finger on it... give me another week or two. The old thinker works slowly these days. ;)

I do agree about the music, though. Mark Snow still kicks ass.

No problem, better late than never! And you answered my comment faster than I commented to your entry in the first place! ;)

Yeah, I get what you mean. There were a few scenes with her that were really ridiculous. When they had her goggle stem cell therapy, I felt like banging my head! I mean, she's a doctor, someone with a medical degree; she'd never use Google for such a research. There are professional medical databases for that! And I didn't like her in the scene alone with Father Joe. That really was a little bit over the top.

I can only guess, but what's probably bugging here is the fact that she seriously asks Mulder to give up just like that at a point where it doesn't make much sense!

But the pervert in me still enjoyed Scully in a Bikini way too much! ;)

Well, yeah... but you had to wait until after you'd seen the movie, so I'm giving you a pass on that one. ;P

I think the thing that bothered me most about Scully was that she was always the optimist to Mulder's pessimist, and I HATED seeing her so beaten down. (You'd think sleeping w/Mulder would've put a bigger smile on her face.)

My inner pervert wants to know what the definition of "too much" is...? ;)

I just returned home yesterday from a little trip to clear my head. (I'll post more about it later.) It's sweet of you to be concerned, but I'm sorry I made you worry!
