Ok, this is weird...

Last year, I met a chestnut yearling by A.P. Indy out of a Mr. Prospector mare. He was a half to multiple stakes winner With Ability. I saw him on two different occasions, both times inside of a stall. He didn't have any glaringly obvious conformation faults. He was named Uncertain, but later renamed to Indy Pacific. He sold at Keeneland this year ( Read more... )

I don't get it. How can an A.P. Indy out of a Mr. Prospector mare only go for $12,000 at the Keeneland sale? And why was he not being sold as a racing prospect? Was something wrong with him? Overall, though, I just find it odd that a horse of such amazing pedigree is only being bred for 1200 bucks a pop. @_@

Sorry, just reiterating all your own curious ponderings, as this whole story is shockingly strange... Just to let you know you're not alone. ^^;; Say, with one of my aunt's mares and $1200, I could be in the racing industry!

I know he worked out at least once. But I'm guessing he wasn't all that impressive, and he must've had some physical problem to only be $12,000.

He doesn't look Sabino, but being a chestnut, he will go well with some of their more bodly marked mares.

Painted Desert does race some of their wildly colored stock, so I'm guessing they saw an opportunity for some quality blood to inject into their program, and they grabbed it. I'm assuming they'll breed him to their sabino mares in hopes of colorful and fast babies. :)

But still, $12 grand for a horse with his breeding? That's nuts. I wonder what's wrong with him? 'Cos at that price, there must be something.
