Lack of posts and highly opinionated posts that don't match the opinions of those who defriended you probably have something to do with it.
Your political/social/economic opinions and mine are extremely different, but I can shrug it off or scroll past (and keep my mouth shut, generally) -- a lot of folks can't, and it brings negative feelings to the surface. Why spend your time reading posts that will make you feel angry?
Keep in mind I'm not telling you to not share your opinion -- part of the joy of LJ is seeing everyone's! -- but I can kind of understand being defriended because others' opinions cause folks to feel uncomfortable or annoyed. It's probably not worth getting too upset about, and if it was a real issue I'm hopeful the people would have talked to you before removing you from their lists.
As it is, a quiet removal from a friends list is way better than a screaming, angry "fuck off" of a good-bye.
I guess. Though in all honesty I've been less political in the last year than I have in the rest of my time on LJ. Not counting yesterday's marriage post, I have not made a bonafide political post in a year. I did frequently in 2013 but have mellowed pretty much since then. My views may still be the same but what's the point in getting up in arms and making people uncomfortable every time I open my mouth
( ... )
more than once I've had to deal with passive aggressive crap when people suddenly decide not to talk to you anymore and don't bother saying anything to you about why. It's rude and cowardly IMHO
