"Well," she told him, plopping down comfortably next to him. "That was a complete wash, but I finally finished my bloody arithmancy assignment. What are you doing?" she asked, leaning over to read his work.
She felt no compunction in doing so. They did it to each other often.
What caught her by surprise was the doodling on the edges, and she blinked, then lifted an enquiring gaze to Gabe's face. "What are you doing?" she asked again, but the meaning was implicitly different.
"Nothing," he stated, bending his knees up and hooking his feet on the edge of the couch cushion so that the parchment was partially shielded from her view.
"Finishing this essay," he added, although he knew he wasn't doing a sufficient job in covering for himself. He sighed quietly, chewing on the corner of his lip as he debated about how much he wanted to tell her.
On the side of the page?" she answered sceptically. "Kitten, you never write on the side of the page. You look down on people who doodle and that," she jabbed a finger at the obvious doodle, careful not to smear the ink onto the actual essay, "is clearly a doodle."
Lifting her gaze again, her face softened slightly. "Come on, kitten, what are you doing? You know I won't leave you alone until I get a good answer..."
Sometimes he hated that Callie could read him so clearly and knew just about everything about him. It made it dreadfully hard to hide things - even things he thought might be better to hide.
"I'm just- I'm thinking," he answered weakly, sighing quietly. "I can't stop thinking, actually."
