Home is Where the Sharp Objects Are

Reason eight million why I need to get out of my house: it is perhaps the least welcoming place I know. A while back, over wine, my mom was wondering why nobody ever seemed to want to visit us, and I think in part it's because the atmosphere of my home is somewhat unfriendly and daunting for visitors. My mother is, if it's possible, even more of an ( Read more... )

At least we can commiserate, eh? :P

It's been good to see you this weekend. Hopefully we'll be in each other's general vicinity again soon.

*hugs*

I feel your pain... Growing up in my house was often the same way. I didn't realize other families talked during dinnertime until I went over to my high school boyfriend's house for dinner one night, and was completely anxiety-filled the amount of social interaction they had. I didn't see a lot of other people at our house growing up, and it's hard now to get out of that habit. Having just hatched a kid, it makes me think long and hard about what sort of least-crazy environment I want him to grow up in.

dude, i hear ya. i have a sister who would run out of nowhere and bite and kick and hang on every new person who went through the door, and another sister who would scream bloody murder and run around hysterically every time someone looked at her wrong...

yikes. it was hard for me to leave the crazy in a lot of ways, too. all of a sudden i had no reason to lock myself in my room....

you just have to find the moments of goodness that derive from the psychosis, such as a druggie sister taking you drinking at 13 or a slutty little sister who has slutty little friends who start doing stuff with ya (or is that extremely bad too?)

Well, you know that you are always invited to my house. And anyway I understand your parents house. I know of the crazy at both of our homes. See, my house is the opposite, we entertain because it keeps the crazy from happening, like if the house has to be spotless, people fed until nearly unconscious and things in order than maybe no one will fight.
