The Complete Idiot's Guide to Writing Erotic Romance (abridged)

Feb 19, 2008 13:08

Last night, Boyfriend and I had our Valentine's/hey-we've-almost-been-together-for-four-years/promotion celebration, which consisted of so much Italian food that I'm still full, and three-course drinks. It was fabulous, even if I currently feel like I never want to eat again ( Read more... )

It helps being able to take them into a cafe...

Maybe a library?

I'd give advice, but the closest I came was in "Ghostly Visitations" and even there I kinda chickened out to a "R" My personal preference is to avoid the anatomical terms, even though I admit even that makes me squirm a bit since it seems the way is to call the naughty bits "him" Maybe that's why they sometimes refer to IT as "Little ____"?

He'd latched himself onto me before then, but I thought that I had lost him... It worked for about five minutes, anyway.

I checked the library catalogue, and they didn't have a lot (which is probably for the best, as I owe them lots of money).

You've seen the closest I've come to something readable, and I feel like I cheated and took a lot of shortcuts. It's better than lots of the pathetic attempts hidden away in obscure files on my laptop, but I dislike cheating as a general rule, especially in my writing.

I thought that I had it contained into a nice, long-ish short story, but it decided to be a novella after al

And it won't be up until tomorrow now, because of a minor situation that was outside of anyone's control...

I shall escape the evil clutches of my family to get it up ASAP, I promise.

I shall patiently wait. Yes, I will.

It works out for the best, anyway, as I have time to fix a few bits that I'm not satisfied with.

This sounds a bit silly, but the best advice I can give for writing smut like it comes naturally is to do it ... well, at the same rate which a teenage boy wanks when he has first discovered the orgasm.

Just make sure to use plenty of lubrication to avoid chafing.

Heee... That's actually useful advice. And it makes me giggle. I like it.

Would you potentially be up for coffee on Thursday morning? I'm in town and it's occurred to me that I haven't seen you in forever...

Barring my ability to get to some sort of coffee venue, I am definitely in.

I'd say we should discuss your smutty adventures, but I'm sure we'd make people uncomfortable.

...somehow that makes the subject more appealing.

It does make it more appealing... I'm up for scarring the people in the vicinity if you are.

Does the Chapters Sbux around 10:30 work for you? (I'd say VL, but I still know people who work there, who are probably happier not hearing about my smutty adventures...)

I'm so happy for you and your bf! Life is so much greater when you have someone by your side who truly loves you ^^

Thanks! I think it's a good sign that he still makes me feel foolishly happy, to the point that I'm tripping over my own feet (although it's possible that I would do that anyway)...

How the hell did you manage to get internet in Calgary? Most of the airports I fly through charge me for it...

Erm, yeah... There was potentially a small fee involved.

Two and a half hours, and I'd already hit the martinis... I was rather bored. (Although none of the post was written whilst in Calgary, if that's what you mean...)
