The question of my favourite book-made-movie is one that has haunted me for many years; generally, I believe in the power of the Written Word over the Power of Celluloid, but there are some books that make wonderful films. I fully agree with you about those two Austen adaptations--I haven't seen (or even heard of) I Capture the Castle or Spiderwick though. Wilce's book sounds intriguing--something perhaps to keep in mind when coming off my SSHG reading binge and looking for "real fic" to return my brain to it's functioning self.

I Capture the Castle is one of my absolute favourite books-it's a quirky and touching coming-of-age story-and I think that the film adaptation manages to do a marvelous job of conveying everything about it that I loved. (The trailer makes it seem really melodramatic, but I swear it's good: http://youtube.com/watch?v=QLpKo__1160)

Spiderwick is a series of children's books that I adore and force upon people at every given opportunity-they're the kinds of stories that I loved reading as a kid...

It's a wildly fun book. Very imaginative and the ending caught me off guard.
