For me the BSG finale killed a lot of what was left of my love for the show with its unselfconscious colonial/racist imagery :(

Congratulations on your successful conference!

And now I'm off to write those two papers (BSG / war on terror & post-feminist TV and the beauty myth) that are due next week ;DD

The part with the native Africans? Honestly, I saw that as completely self-conscious and self aware-especially when they started talking about interbreeding and giving them language and "helping" them. I don't think you can use that kind of fraught, heavy handed language about a native population without invoking North American settlement and the horrors that were involved, at least not to a reasonably educated North American audience. And even more so because the final scene suggests that only Hera's bloodline survived, so both the colonials and the natives died off at some point, under some unknown circumstances.

I loved the ending and for about 2 months afterwards, listening to the song "So Much Life" for the final Roslin & Adama scene made me break out into tears.

Roslin and Adama forEVAH. I rewatched the miniseries the other night with a friend who had never seen it and it was such an excellent reminder of why I was rooting for them from the very beginning. I love how they go from constantly clashing and frequent outright animosity to an equal partnership, both politically and personally. So happy-making!

Also, how amazing is the soundtrack to the series? Normally, I have a hard time listening to scores of television shows because they really only work in the context of events, but I downloaded the OST and can't stop listening to it.

And I'm glad you like the final episode, too. So far, you are only the second person (other than me) who liked it.

The soundtrack made the bf and I fans of Bear McCreary for life. SO AMAZING. <3 All Along the Watchtower, An Easterly View, The Passage of Time, ... If you're at all into music (which IIRC you are), you should read Bear McCreary's blog posts from when BSG was airing.
