Jason and I got back from Salem last night around midnight. Much more successful attempt at a vacation than this year's trip to the Outer Banks. There were a few down notes, but overall, a good time was had. ( The trip. )
The level of costuming was definitely amateur at best for most of them. The only ones that actually impressed me were the Ghostbusters, and they lacked a Winston.
Thank you for the long, newsy post! You definitely are selling the trip as an excellent way to celebrate fall. If I didn't already have a fall colors trip to Rhinebeck, I'd sign up for your tour in a heartbeat. (I particularly appreciate the restaurant reviews, btw.)
You are welcome. Tragedy aside, I was quite happy we opted for the train, because the foliage throughout New England was absolutely BREATHTAKING, especially as the Amtrak route closely hugs the water in Connecticut.
Yes, being able to stop and see the colors is part of the fun of having someone else drive. I got to trade off driving, and part of our route takes us up I-87 along the Hudson River. Crossing the river during sunset on the way home was fabulous. Everyone crossing the bridge was driving slowly even though we could have been faster just so we could all take in the view.
And I *heart* trains. So thanks for taking the trip on the tracks so I could read about it. (Tragedy though there was.)
