Gevanni stared at the words on the screen with a sneer “We will talk when you are done”

Oh hell no he wasn’t letting Near off that easily. He felt liberated, no longer confined to the simpering, passive fool he’d been.

It was disgusting even thinking about it.

If that little brat wanted him to say everything he felt well he was going to deliver that message personally. Let’s see if Near kept up his stoic act when faced with reality.

Taking some of his frustrations out on the door as he left the house he made his way stormily to Near’s building. He’d tell him alright; he’d tell him that he was no longer his dog willing to roll over at a mere request. Not only was that preying on his mind, but to defend a cold blooded murder was another issue that made him feel sick with rage. He had so much resentment building he felt like he was going to burst.

Banging at Nears door he really hoped he wouldn’t answer as he’d love to see that cold face look surprised when he kicked the damn thing down.

The bang at the door thundered in the whole house. Near's eyes raised from the screen to face the door of his room, already getting ideas of who the monster behind the door could be. If it was Gevanni, Near didn't doubt that he'd force the door open as soon as he ran out of patience, which was bound to happen quickly.

The situation was bad...

Near was completely alone in the house at that moment. If he didn't do anything, he might end up getting killed. In a place like Sigil, it was unclear whether or not people remained dead forever; it was better not risk it.

Quickly, Near typed a message for Matt, the only non cursed person Near knew who might read it on time. Then, he waited.

Aside from Mello being cursed and ridding him of all his games because of the lack of an "E" rating he sat slumped and bored on his couch, laptop balancing on his pulled up knees.

It was then, in that pure moment of boredom that he received a message. A very urgent one. Groaning to himself he shut the laptop, setting it off to the side as he sprung to his feet, a gloved hand running through his hair.

Great. Someone decides to potentially harm Near and Mello's turned into too much of a pussy to do anything about it.

There was nothing Matt had to use to defend himself, or anyone for that matter (god knows where Mello had confiscated his gun) so the only things left that were remotely dangerous were knives.

How wonderful.

Snatching the largest and sharpest one he could find in the kitchen, Matt bolted out of the apartment and down the street, hoping to God nothing bad had happened yet.

If it did, he'd never hear the end of it.

Years of police raids soon came in handy when he realised Near wasn’t going to open the door anytime soon. He felt such satisfaction as the blow from his foot knocked the door against the wall with such intensity it knocked some of the plaster off.

There was Near the same as always, same blank look on his face, same disinterest. God it just made him sick. In seconds he was across the room kicking the laptop so hard it flew across the floor and slid partway into a pile of toys.

‘Calling for help? Do you seriously think I’m going to harm you Near’ it was spat out with such vehemence Gevanni hoped he would see some anxiety in those dark eyes.

No such luck, cold brat!

Like a predator toying with his prey he leaned down and roughly grabbed Nears face so he would have to pay attention.

‘We have to have a little chat you and I and I’d like you to pay attention’
