Checkers has been solved (and a perfect checkers program created)

Since there are already good chess programs I don't find this feat very interesting. Although I am interested in wei-chi programs because the decision tree has many more branches. I did find the below quotes interesting though ( Read more... )

Well, he'll never accomplish anything with that attitude. Wait 5 years and see.

I agree that "attitude" is important, but understanding (and acknowledging) limits (of machines and humans) is also important.

That said, I do believe in "Moore's Law" (really an observation, not a law) and I am confident the "chess problem" will be solved someday (if we don't send ourselves back to the stone-age, or worse)... and if true quantum computers are invented (if that is possible) then it would even be easy to solve the Wei-Chi problem!
