This is an option I have been considering, though the thought of trying to balance two jobs without any clashing gives me a headache.

This kind of thing used to happen to me alllllll the time when I worked in retail. I'd ask for fulltime work, and I'd get four or five 3 hour shifts. I'd kick up a fuss, they'd promise to fix it. Meanwhile can you work 40 minutes away? We don't pay travel time and hopefully we'll get you some shifts a bit closer for next week.

Lather, rinse, repeat.
