Leafs trade!

Jun 24, 2006 20:32

Okay, kids... the Leafs have traded goaltending prospect Tuuka Rask (1st round pick, 2005) to the Boston Bruins for former Calder Trophy winner Andrew Raycroft.

Rask was unsigned, and the Leafs still have Justin Pogge, who was stellar for Canada at the world junior championships, in the system.

Discuss.

And Tellqvist hasn't been resigned yet AFAIK. Shows how much confidence JFJ has in him, but where will he trade him to?

I think it was too soon to use one of Rask or Pogge in a trade. Shoulda had another year to look at them before deciding who to dump. Telly+Aubin in a fairly even workload coulda worked for a season and woulda been cheaper, especially since Maurice will tighten their defense. Guess JFJ wanted to be 100% sure they'd make the playoffs, and/or he needed a legit and young #1 to attract free agents here.

As for Raycroft, I'd have to understand why he had a bad season last year before I say if he was worth Rask. Most fans on TSN's Your Call seem to think it was a bad trade though...

You know me, I can talk Raptors till my face is blue like Leaf fan... I just don't follow the NHL closely

What was Raycroft's injury last year anyways (glanced over his stats in the paper)

I'm actually a little surprised that Boston is willing to give up its "Goaltender of the Future". I guess the future for Boston will prove to be the 2005-2006 season...^_^

The thing with Boston (as I found out last year) is that they are a very very very very stupid franchise. Now that Mike Milbury is out on the island, they are probably only second to Chicago. Very very very stupid. They traded their franchise guy for two good players (who had already peaked) and a spare part. He went on to win the scoring title, the MVP, and vault a previously mediocre team to the 4th seed. I have very little doubt that Tukka Rask will turn into a pumpkin.
