Flowers and Walks

A belated thank you, by the way, to those who answered my auntie J's question on English pubs and flowers. It'd struck her that many pubs -- rather than cafés or restaurants -- had carefully maintained flowers hanging in baskets, etc. Considering that there aren't nearly as many florists in London as there are in the Netherlands, she thought that ( Read more... )

Borough Market is only 10-15 minutes from my house, and I have been known to visit. :)

Southwark has some nice areas for seeing how old-fashioned London can be. Some of the areas around East Street are like small communities that seem to be a few decades behind the surrounding streets in that the neighbourhood is still a very open one, and everyone knows each other. (Probably because the families have lived there since the war, and rarely move away.)

It's definitely worth going for walks in different parts of London -- it's not always pretty but it possesses much more variety than Paris.

I'd go for Paris type pretty over ugly London type variety any day, myself. But then again, London seems to hate me.

Generally, I'd pick Paris over London too. But after two years of Paris (not long enough!) I was ready for a change to a less conservative city.
