Last Weeks in Paris

So what to do in my last days/weeks here? Apart from packing boxes and wondering why I brought so many books to Paris that is. I've made a list of things that I'd still like to do but I think I have time for about half of them.

I've been discovering something similar here in Germany - the better someone's English is, the more they desperately want to practise it. And here's me wanting to practise my German...

I just noticed - in my address book, I have two entries for you.

Both are Lage Rijndijk 126a ... yep, I think I'm seriously behind in pruning/updating.

As for telescopes - we observed the transit of Venus with the aid of an 1838 telescope at bellinghwoman's workplace. (This is the telescope that specifically was not used to discover Neptune.)

Ooh, telescope coolness. But, specifically not used to discover Neptune? Sounds like there's a story there, or not?

Doing a bit more research: here.

Challis actually saw Neptune through this telescope, recording its position on the 4th August 1846. Neptune was actually officially discovered the following month.

Thanks for the link. I hadn't realised Challis was at Cambridge. I remember that he just missed out because of not following up whereas Galileo seems to have had just plain bad luck.
