Should there not be butter, or cream cheese, or something to "wet" the sandwich and stick everything together? I can't stand any kind of sandwich that doesn't have some form of spread on it - so, assuming I could face the idea of speculaas sandwiches, I'd have to say the spread would have to be better, if only by default, where the alternative is dry biscuits on dry bread :)

Has Wingnut tried Fairy Bread? (I am assuming that _you_ know what Fairy Bread is, of course) :)

He hasn't! I remember explaining the concept to him recently, I really should inflict it on him. Thank you. :)

furrfu did say he liked his with lots of butter or similar but I can't stand the stuff. Which is what led to the sticking-hagelslag-on-with-strawberry-jam heresy. I don't think I'm sufficiently dedicated to the cause of science to rerun this experiment with either that or cream cheese though.

Far be it for me to call any sandwiches weird.

When my younger daughter was working in a pub, her boss found her eating a packet of crisps for her lunch. She was horrified: "Put them between a couple of slices of bread and make a proper meal of it!"

YD (born and bred in London) couldn't think of anything to say.
