Strange choice of music. Fairytale - a song about bickering alcoholics whose lives are in ruins. Hallelujah - I had heard vague rumblings about that song being everywhere, but had no idea there were 3 versions in the charts simultaneously. Again, a song with lyrics which are rather, um, ambiguous and not really all that festive.

Still, it's good news for Leonard Cohen, who needs the money.

It's possible that Fairytale just came across as "da da da, AND the BELLS are RINGING out on CHRISTMAS DAY". Or maybe someone did listen to the lyrics, it's always possible.

Alexandra Burke seems to have managed a more cheerful rendition of Hallelujah than is usual. Maybe it'll be even more popular at weddings now.
