Tattered coat upon a stick

Just got back from a meeting of the book club I'm a part of. We were discussing Fangirl, and talked about writing fanfic myself (one other girl there has) and some of the other ladies had read it. Amusingly, the person I'm closest with was basically, "I don't get it - not the attraction to reading it or writing it, and same with cosplay and other ( Read more... )

I would vote for perimenopause. I went to my OB-GYN at around that age because I had a period with no off-switch. After doing a uterine biopsy to determine there was no cancer, she gave me progesterone -- I had stopped making it and was still pumping out estrogen so my off-switch was broken.

I'm sorry to say that perimenopause can last as long as 10 years and mine did. On the other hand, I had a very easy menopause - no trouble with hot flashes or anything. We have tofu about a once a week, and that's supposed to be good for it so maybe that helped. (We live in an area which has an Asian majority, not white, so fresh tofu is easily come by - we don't buy the prepackaged stuff at the grocery store.)

Yeah, I know it's the most likely possibility. I think I vaguely thought it was still a few years off, although mostly I haven't really thought about it until something started happening. We'll see what the dr. has to say, I suppose.

I don't loathe tofu, but I don't eat it unless I'm at a restaurant with people who do, and then I'll snag pieces here and there. We have a big Vietnamese community in town, so I could potentially find some fresh. I'll look into it.

I have heard that soy based products are actually bad for women in menopause, as it converts to estrogen in the body and can be harmful.

Hope it's not endo...you know how badly I suffer with that. Ugh. Keep us updated!
