Some insurers here are offering 'discounts' to people who have black boxes fitted. However, I am very dubious about this as a)'discounts' for these users translate as price increases for everyone else - insurers won't let their profits go down, and b)there have been a fair few reports of these boxes going wrong.

I think some car companies may be offering them as options, too - at least that's what somebody in class thought. Whenever I drive a university vehicle, I know I'm being monitored - they check them randomly and if you're caught speeding, you're forbidden to drive a uni-owned car for six months.

Another thing I forgot to mention was a young man saying that his place of work required him to agree to certain things before he was hired, one of them being a sort of electronic shutoff of his cell phone when he clocked in to work. (He apparently worked as a bartender, if I understood him correctly.) He didn't seem too concerned about the fact that they required him to submit himself to their software on his cell phone, or anything like that, instead of just saying "If we catch you on the phone during work hours and it's not a legitimate emergency, we'll dock your pay."
