Except it can't be fandom, because I'm only on the outskirts of it, so it is...the internet keeps you young? Or being immature and not having kids? Too much Tosh.2.0 and The Soup? Or something ( Read more... )

A translation mailing list I'm on had people getting incensed this week by the use of "fail" when English has the perfectly good word "failure", why are people saying this, are they all suddenly illiterate, might it be a mistranslation from Japanese...? I was just surprised none of them had encountered it before.

"Fail" was definitely one of them! But so were, "no dur" and "chill," both of which were around when I was a kid, so I'm startled by her saying they were new.

Well, "no dur" was more, "no duh," but still.
