Perfect albums

I know we're entering the age of the End of the Album, yadda yadda singles, yadda yadda Itunes. But I still love me a good album, something that holds together start to finish. It doesn't have to be a concept album, or a something completely overblown - frequently it's just an album that does a good job of covering a dynamic range with no songs ( Read more... )

For me, The Joshua Tree by U2 is about the greatest rock record. I like every track on it, and it's just majestic.

I also really like The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle by Springsteen.

Songs of Trains and Rivers, by Johnny Cash, is my favourite country record and has been since I was very little.

Joshua Tree is a strong choice. Great from start to finish.

I don't think I've ever listened to a Johnny Cash album, just individual songs. Will have to get my hands on this one.

Oh, I love Graceland, and I have Marc Cohn, too.

A few of my favorites: Dar Williams's The Green World, Barenaked Ladies' Call and Answer, and 10,000 Maniacs' Our Time In Eden.

I've realized lately that I just don't listen to music the same I way I used to. The iPod changed everything for me, and I'm not sure if it's for better or for worse--though I'd hate to give up having all my music at my fingertips wherever I go.

My music listening habits have changed too. I tend to listen to less music in the car and while just walking around, and instead I'm using my iPod to play podcasts. I tend to listen to music at work, at my computer, and I can either shuffle things or listen to albums straight through.

Barenaked Ladies is another group I only know through their singles. And while I adore Queen, I tend to listen to them via their two disc greatest hits collection - I don't think I own all that much of their stuff beyond that. I think I may have Night at the Opera on cassette somewhere, and that's it.

I have Magic Dance on my iPod and it is always welcome when it pops up in shuffle mode. I can't be anything but happy when I hear it!
