You'd think Rory would have figured out a while ago that this is anything but a standard hostage situation, but then for all her book smarts she really can be slow at times

Yes she can be, because even though she has grown up a lot there is a part of her that is still the girl who when confronted by her mother actually argued that it was alright for her to sleep with a married man because he was her's first and who confronted the mulitmillionaire business man because she assumed that him sending his tear away heir to a new environment was purely to force them apart rather than to make him grow up. Unfortunately I think that part would come out in spades with any extreme situation she doesn't understand fully.

Trust me, she'll get it but it is with all things Rory - for it to be real for her she needs a long time to think about it...or possibly just have it smack her in the face :)

I guess it's the result of growing up so sheltered and doted on by an entire town. She really does need to get smacked in the face with it to understand that not everything is about her, and some things she just can't fix.
