Another "Help Me" Fashion Post

So...my winter coat is about done for.  I'm not sure it'll last another winter.  So I'm searching for a new coat.  But the rough thing is...it seems like coats are either a) fashionable or b) warm.  The fashionable coats are all too lightweight, and the warm coats are all shapeless parka type things ( Read more... )

I don't know if you have Burlington's up there, but they occasionally have warm coats, oddly enough. I don't know how you feel about guys jackets, but look at them as well, because they have some that would look great on women and are warm. I have a leather jacket from them with a faux fur neck liner.

Also, if you are looking for serious cold weather gear, look at outdoor apparel, like LLBean, and the like. I have owned some of their stuff that the only reason I got rid of it was because I outgrew it. I want to say these were more in the parka type, but they have some that were amazingly warm.

Nadia says the heaviest coat she has she bought from Old Navy, but while it is very warm for here, I don't know how warm you would consider it.

I need to find a warm winter coat, too! I have a ton of light coats appropriate for spring and autumn, but not for winter! They're really hard to find (well, non-hideous ones, anyway).

I would hit the vintage shops. You're sure to find something fashionable AND warm.

:) You should also think about vintage clothing specific stores if Goodwill doesn't pan out. They tend to have a better selection of fancy coats. They'll cost a little more (sometimes) but will have more sass. I have scored well at Goodwill do don't discount them.

I swear by wool coats. I got mine at target last year and this year we got a pea coat for my husband there.

I love pea coats, but read that chesty women should avoid double breasted styles. Let me know if you see any wool coats that aren't double breasted!!
