Hey! Yes it's possible, I've made a punquin elegant w/ sidebar style one once. I'm just more familiar with Generator so I usually use that style and as far as I know, it's also the one that can be customised the more and in an easier way (Confusing isn't it?)

You can have a sidebar with free style account. Since you know a few things about overrides, you may find interesting things in communities like howto and everything_lj. I've never used html nor any other kind of codes and I'm still able to make layouts, this proves how much these comms are efficient XD
